Reducing methane, storing carbon: Strategies to shrink agriculture's climate footprint
3 July 2025; 16:30 -18:00 CST
Location: German Centre Beijing, near Liangmaqiao + Online
Organizer:
German Centre + Sino-German Agricultural Centre (DCZ) + Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences (CAAS)
Subject: Agriculture is both a major contributor to climate change and a key part of the solution. The sector accounts for a significant share of global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions - through methane from livestock and rice cultivation, nitrous oxide from fertilizers, and carbon dioxide from land-use change. At the same time, agriculture offers promising mitigation pathways: improved soil carbon sequestration, more efficient resource use, and climate-smart farming practices.
Speakers:
Friederike Dörfler (Agriculture Counselor, German Embassy Beijing), Prof. Dr. Barbara Amon (Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy - ATB), Prof. Dr. Dong Hongmin (Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences - CAAS)
