The Outlook for China’s Economy in 2026 and the 15th Five-Year Plan

Virtual Roundtable
The Outlook for China’s Economy in 2026 and the 15th Five-Year Plan
5 February 2026; 11:00 - 12:00 CET
Online (Zoom, Q&A session)
Organizer: Sino German Center at Frankfurt School - SGC

Subject:
China's economy officially grew by around 5% again in 2025, despite the ongoing real estate crisis, weak domestic demand, deflationary pressures, and persistent industrial overcapacity. The main drivers of growth were exports, with a trade surplus exceeding one trillion US dollars, followed by state-led fixed investment. How will China’s economy develop in 2026 - the Year of the Fire Horse? Will private demand finally recover, and what impact will the new 15th Five-Year Plan have?

Speakers:

Dr. Julia Haes
(Managing Director, China Institut für die deutsche Wirtschaft - CIDW; CNBW-Mitglied), Dr. Yi Xiong (Chief Economist China, Deutsche Bank);
Moderator: Prof. Horst Löchel (Sino-German Center)
