(26.2.2026) German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's first official visit to China occurs at a pivotal geopolitical moment: transatlantic relations face strains and China promotes itself as a champion of "true multilateralism", as Minister of Foreign Affairs, Wang Yi, put it at the Munich Security conference. In a new analysis, Cora Jungbluth (Expert for China and the Asia Pacific at the Bertelsmann Stiftung, Gütersloh) argues Berlin should align the trip with four guardrails.

China im Jahr 2025 wieder wichtigster Handelspartner Deutschlands
(24.2.2026) Mit einem Außenhandelsumsatz (Summe der Warenexporte und -importe) von 251,8 Mrd. Euro war die Volksrepublik China im Jahr 2025 wie bereits im Zeitraum von 2016 bis 2023 wieder Deutschlands wichtigster Handelspartner. Wie das Statistische Bundesamt mitteilt, löste China damit die USA ab, die 2024 der wichtigste Handelspartner Deutschlands waren.

ABS plastic: Commission acts against unfairly traded imports of ABS from Korea and Taiwan
(20.2.2026) The EU Commission has introduced targeted duties on certain plastic imports from Korea and Taiwan to stop unfair underpricing that harms European producers and jobs. These measures protect around 920 manufacturing jobs across six Member States and support a healthy, competitive ABS market worth about 1.4 billion EU Euro.
